Identify what is being sold
Record the item description, karat, gross weight and net metal weight where available. Ask what the item's marks mean, and distinguish gold from gold plating. Equal total weights do not imply equal gold content when the material or purity differs.
Ask for the calculation
Request separate figures for the metal, making charge, stones and any applicable fees or taxes. Find out whether the making charge is fixed, per gram or a percentage, and identify the amount on which a percentage is calculated. Use the actual quote rather than an assumed rate.
Put competing offers into matching columns: net weight, purity, metal price, making charge, other charges and total. If a line is missing from one offer, ask about it before treating that offer as cheaper. Note the quote time because the reference price can change between comparisons.
Record the after-sale terms
Obtain the return and exchange policy in writing. Ask how resizing, alteration or repair would be handled. If resale matters to your comparison, obtain an explicit buy-back quote instead of assuming the purchase total can be recovered.
Keep an itemised receipt, the product description and any supplied certificate. If weight, purity or a charge differs from what you expected, correct that input in your comparison. The checklist helps explain and document a quote; it does not authenticate an item or guarantee its future value.
